Shiatsu is a Japanese massage therapy, which has the same theoretical base as Chinese Acupuncture.

Following the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine, it is based on the theory that, within all living things, flows energy (Qi). Our wellbeing, physical and emotional, is dependant upon the free flow of Qi. If the qi becomes stuck, or disrupted in some way, then this will cause areas of excess or deficiency, and there will eventually be a physical or emotional manifestation of this imbalance. The location and severity of the symptoms will depend on the intensity and duration of the imbalance.

In shiatsu, a practitioner will use his own body weight, along with stretching, rocking and holding techniques, his thumbs, fingers, forearms, elbows, knees or feet to work the energy of the receiver’s body to disperse any areas of excess and to tonify any areas of deficiency in order to balance the Qi and restore free flow.

Shiatsu is suitable for all ages and types of people, and is built on the idea that the body is essentially a healthy, self-regulating unit.
